History of International Women's Day

International Women's Day began with a demonstration on March 8, 1909. Then in 1911, International Women's Day began to be commemorated by highlighting the social, cultural, economic and political values of women.

At first, protests were staged by female workers in New York demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote in politics.

Clara Zetkin, an activist who later proposed the establishment of International Women's Day, also voiced this demand. She submitted this idea to the International Conference of Working Women which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1910.

At the conference, there were as many as 100 women in 17 countries agreed to Clara Zetkin's proposal unanimously.

Then in 1977, International Women's Day was inaugurated as an annual celebration by the United Nations (UN) which aims to fight for women's rights and bring about world peace.

Until now, more than a century International Women's Day is celebrated in almost all countries. Significant changes also continue to occur, especially changes related to attitudes and thoughts about women's equality and emancipation.

Besides knowing the history of International Women's Day, we can also learn about the special achievements of influential women around the world.

However, at this time there are still a number of unresolved problems for women, such as there is still no equality between women and men and there are also cases of domestic violence that are more dominantly experienced by women.

Therefore, every woman can be an inspiration, change the world and themselves, and even others in their own way.

International Women's Day also certainly teaches women around the world to always be confident and passionate about reaching their goals.

Women have the right to feel safe and comfortable in every space for activities. Be beautiful and wise but respected, that's important.

Happy International Women's Day to all the amazing women out there.
